About this Special Workshop:
Join us for an extraordinary three-hour workshop, delving deep into the colorful, mystical and expressive art of Persian frame drumming & traditional rhythms.
You will be guided by frame drum specialist & composer, Marla Leigh, and internationally-acclaimed Persian percussionist, Naghmeh Farahmand.
The rhythms we will teach you, deeply rooted in traditional Persian music, are filled with intricate patterns and cycles, often characterized by trance-inducing rhythms, odd meters and rich embellishments.
Persian frame drums (ie. daf and dâyereh) have a beautiful sound, and create a powerful rhythmic conversation between all players. (It also makes our workshop ideal for those who desire to jam with other players and instruments.)
Whoever you are, whatever your level, come and let the song of your drum be part of this exotic and enlivening conversation.
We look forward to ‘talking’ with you, through fingers and hearts.
ALL WELCOME: Total beginners and the drumless are welcome ~ you can begin your journey playing on a book.
