The Art of Greek Rhythms & Frame Drumming

In the Greek language, "τακτοί" (taktoí) or "ρυθμοί" (rhythmoí) are based on complex, rich and intricate rhythmic structures that add depth, emotion and energy to music.

Traditional Greek rhythms showcase an extraordinary diversity, with an array of patterns and time signatures that are awaiting exploration.

What is a Frame Drum?

Known for its deep spiritual connection, and restorative, relaxing properties, the frame drum was played in many cultures for ceremony, sacred rites of passage and celebration.

It does not matter if you have never heard of the frame drum, never played an instrument before, or if your fingers have become rusty and your drums dusty, this fun musical workshop will guide you to be more creative and hopefully discover/refresh a healthy addiction.

In this UPLIFTING workshop, we will:

  • Learn frame drum techniques (in the lap style)
  • Learn how to count rhythm using "Solkattu" - a South Indian vocal system
  • Discover popular traditional Greek rhythms
  • Tone with your voice and drum using traditional Greek modes & rhythms
  • Play along with traditional Greek music (videos)

By the end of the workshop, you will not only gain fresh insights into music but also develop new skills in Greek Traditional rhythms, frame drumming, and singing with your drum, and hopefully some fresh exciting musical passions!
